LOUISIANA BECOMES THE FIRST U.S. STATE TO ALLOW SURGICAL CASTRATION FOR CHILD ABUSER.

Louisiana is the first state in the U.S. to introduce surgical castration as a legal penalty for child sex offenders.

Signed into law by Governor Jeff Landry, Act 651 mandates that individuals convicted of severe sex crimes against children under the age of 13 may undergo permanent surgical castration.

The law, which took effect on August 1, 2024, applies to both male and female offenders and includes provisions for additional prison time if the offender refuses the procedure.

Critics of the law have raised concerns about its potential constitutional violations.
