34-year-old Christopher Best, a Canadian radar technician and amateur photographer, was thrilled to see polar bears near his remote Arctic worksite.

Just hours after posting photos of a bear online and telling his worried parents they were ‘not close,’ he left the safety of the facility to get more pictures.

He was so focused on the one bear he could see that he never saw the second one lurking nearby. Both animals charged and mauled him to death. Investigators say he ignored warning signs and safety advisories after reassuring family that “the bears weren’t close. His final photos serve as a haunting document of his last moments. 💔🐻‍❄️
