Man Caught Pretending to Be His Dead Mother — Police Find Her Mummified Body in His Basement

A 57-year-old man in Italy was caught after spending three years collecting his dead mother’s pension. When her ID expired, he disguised himself as her — wearing a wig, dress, lipstick, and jewelry — to renew it. Staff immediately became suspicious and contacted police.

When officers asked the “mother” to return, they saw the disguise clearly didn’t match an 85-year-old woman. The man confessed, and a search of his home revealed his mother’s mummified body hidden in the cellar.

She is believed to have died naturally in 2022. The son is now under investigation and faces charges of fraud and concealing a corpse.
