Mysterious cannabis condition discovered — Now Trump hints at federal reform

Donald Trump has signaled he’s open to changing U.S. cannabis laws after scientists identified a newly recognized side effect in long-term users. While cannabis rules currently vary widely by state — with strict differences between medical and recreational use — the drug remains illegal federally under Schedule I.

At a press conference, Trump said his administration is considering reclassifying cannabis, calling the issue “very complicated” but acknowledging the benefits of medical use.

His comments resurfaced after researchers highlighted cannabis hyperemesis syndrome (CHS) — a condition that can cause severe nausea and vomiting even in longtime users who previously experienced no issues.
