People gag as ‘tadpole water’ becomes Gen Z’s latest viral weight loss hack
On social media, many viewers were stunned after a woman shared her experience of losing weight with tadpole water, which then became a viral trend on TikTok.
A bizarre new weight loss trend is sweeping social media. Known as “tadpole water,” this drink claims to help shed pounds fast.
Many Gen Z users swear by it, despite its odd appearance and taste.
What is tadpole water?

The drink consists of three simple ingredients: warm water, chia seeds, and fresh lemon juice. When mixed, the chia seeds swell, creating a texture that resembles tiny tadpoles in water.
Mariah Padilla, 18, shared her experience on TikTok, stating, “I can confirm it does work for weight loss.”
In the footage, she claimed to have lost three pounds in three days by drinking the mixture. However, she admitted, “The texture is funky and it tastes funky, too. It makes me gag… but it’s worth it.”
“Tadpole water,” Mariah Padilla, 18, began in a buzzy TikTok bulletin. “I can confirm that is does work for weight loss.”

The science behind chia seeds and weight loss
Chia seeds are packed with fiber, protein, omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and essential vitamins. According to a report from Harvard Health, these tiny seeds support digestive health, reduce cholesterol, and help manage weight.
“When chia seeds are ingested,” researchers explained, “they form a gel-like substance in the stomach. This increases fullness and decreases appetite and calorie intake.” This effect has made them popular in several recent diet trends, such as “Rice-Zempic” and “Oat-Zempic.”
