JoJo Siwa Gets Emotional Talking About Her Gender Identity on Celebrity Big Brother U.K.

JoJo Siwa opened up about her “confusing” feelings about her gender identity in a heartfelt moment during Celebrity Big Brother U.K.

In Tuesday’s episode of the show, the show’s omniscient narrator “Big Brother” accused the former Dance Moms star of exchanging “secret messages” with castmate Chris Hughes. In a clip posted to Big Brother U.K.’s Instagram, the singer admitted to exchanging those messages. When asked by “Big Brother” — the unseen voice that ostensibly governs the show — what they were about, Siwa responded, “It’s something that I’m not ready, necessarily, to be open about or up front about, but it has to do with gender and how do I feel.”

Though Siwa seemed initially overwhelmed, saying, “This is a lot,” she collected herself and explained her burgeoning feelings about her gender identity. In the clip posted to her Instagram, an acoustic version of Siwa’s 2021 song, “Nobody Can Change Me,” can be heard playing in the background as she says, “You have female, you have male, met a lot of females, love them, don’t feel like I’m them.”

Then Siwa added that while she loves the “males” she’s met, she’s also “definitely not them.” Lastly, she said, “Met a lot of people in my life that are nonbinary, and these beautiful nonbinary people are who I feel the most like.” While Siwa specified that it’s “not something that I want to say about myself yet,” she admitted that it’s also “confusing.”

When “Big Brother” thanked Siwa for her honesty, she responded, “It’s important to be honest and I think it’s important to also show that it’s okay to not know.”

On her Instagram post, Siwa’s mother, who is currently running her social media, captioned the clip, “What you are feeling inside is absolutely okay, you can talk about it whenever you decide. No pressure and no judgement, only love and support always.”

Siwa also recently announced that her pronouns are “anything you feel in that day, whatever I look like, you can call me,” in a video for Pink News. But her confession on Celebrity Big Brother U.K. marks the first time that she’s discussed her gender identity beyond that.

The emotional moment for Siwa came shortly after castmate Mickey Rourke was kicked out of the Big Brother house for making homophobic comments toward her, as well as behaving inappropriately to other castmates, including allegedly grabbing and ogling host AJ Odudu.

We’re just glad that Siwa seemingly has a ton of support behind her among her other housemates, and we’ll be behind her every step of the way.
