Madison officer, K9 injured in collision identified
MADISON, Wis — The Madison police officer and his K9, who suffered injuries after a head-on collision, who police said a reckless driver caused on over the weekend, have been identified, according to officials.
According to Capital K9s, Officer Ryan Kimberely and K9 Freddie responded to reports of a reckless driver, which ended in a head-on collision.
The Monona Police Department arrested a Madison tow truck driver after they said he led officers on a chase that led to Kimberely’s injuries. The 36-year-old suspected driver faces charges of felony eluding, reckless driving, resisting an officer, and multiple traffic violations. Police said he was also involved in a prior collision with a Monona police squad car.
Capital K9s reported that Freddie was wearing a vest, which helped protect him from more serious injuries.
Officer Kimberely is a current serving member of the Wisconsin Air National Guard 115th Fighter Wing.
